Hardcore Workout Queen – track by track

Put the album on and take a trip through learning what each song is about!

100 Times
It’s a stream of consciousness about the meaning of life. It’s big. It’s small. It’s happy, it’s sad, it’s everything and nothing. It’s standing still and moving on. It’s that kind of that feeling, that everything is right in front of you, yet you can’t make any sense of it.

The Greatest
It’s about modern society and the culture of non-commitment. It’s about wanting everything all at once (whilst slowly drowning in all the many options, because you’re too overwhelmed to make any decisions and so you end up with nothing)

Venice 142
It is celebrating a strange mind.

Hardcore Workout Queen
I wrote this in a wake and bake mood: It’s about being the Champion of the slobs, whilst cheering for the Hardcore Workout Queens, who run past your bedroom window early morning, when you’re just tucking into your second breakfast. It’s kind of you do you and I do me and maybe one day we’ll switch. It’s the perfect song to listen to whether you’ve got a protein shake or a beer in your hand, whether you’ve got a popcorn machine or a rowing machine in your home, whether you’re a wake and baker or a record breaker…

So Dope
This song feels almost like the counterpoint to Hardcore Workout Queen—it might even be the POV of the Hardcore Workout Queen in our previous song. It’s almost as if these 2 songs on our album are having a conversation. It’s a look at the pressure to present a perfect self: draining, hollow, and ultimately a waste of time, the endless loop of social media showmanship. It makes me think – when all of that fades, what will actually remain? What is your legacy?

I Sometimes Do (But Mostly Might)
It’s about all the things I almost do, all the things I almost say. It’s me, a personified contradiction.

My Best Friend
It was the first song I wrote with Dan Carey: It started with a jam at his studio in South London – with just 2 guitars and a cowbell. Well… and a few cowbell hits later the song was there in its whole glory. I had such a good time making this track with Dan. I kind of already felt from the very first second I met him and entered his studio that this was gonna be amazing. It’s about when the line between friendship and love starts to blur.

Better Than We Are
It’s about wishing to go back to a place „where the green was greener and your jokes were funner, where the floor was nearer and I dreamed in colour…“ It’s about the ways we pretend to be better than we are – and the struggle to stay sane in an upside-down world.

„And I keep on writing that I am doing ok
I count a hundred times, just like the doctor said
And I still look for answers even in my sleep and
In the dark night honey you know we are
Better than we are“

Hello
It’s about a night I have spent in a stranger’s mind. It felt great. So many different thoughts, different fears, different views and and a well-deserved holiday from my own mind.

Pull Me Off The Passing Lane
It’s about waiting for the decision-maker to help you sort through and make sense of your thoughts and not let these thoughts „pull you off the passing lane“.
